Joining as a Trader

Traders are crucial to the success of our markets as a research and teaching tool. Many of our markets are open to the general public. All of our markets are open to those with academic affiliation. There is currently a one-time $5.00 account set-up fee for joining our markets.

Please explore our website to learn more about our markets. You can also login to the IEM and practice trading to learn how the markets work.

To enroll, read our Trader’s Manual and go to our online registration page. Complete the form, print out the confirmation page and send it with your initial investment, and the one-time $5.00 account set-up fee to: IEM Office, 108 Pappajohn Business Building, Iowa City, IA 52242.

Joining as a Teacher

We and many of our colleagues have integrated these markets into our courses. We have found them an excellent way to engage student interest in accounting, economics, finance, political science and related disciplines.

To learn more about using these markets in class, go to Instructor Resources, or write the IEM office at iem@uiowa.edu. To aid you in incorporating the IEM in your class, sample assignments submitted by faculty who have used the IEM as part of their courses are archived at our website.

Joining as a Researcher

We frequently join colleagues in developing special markets for research. If you are interested in pursuing such an opportunity, please contact iem@uiowa.edu, so you can be put in touch with the appropriate IEM faculty.

We also make data from past markets available for academic research. To inquire about data availability, please check our historical data page or write iem@uiowa.edu.

Joining as a Sponsor

Our markets are conducted as a not-for-profit research and teaching project. There is currently a one-time $5.00 account set-up fee for joining our markets.

If you would like to provide resources to support the IEM in its teaching and research mission, please contact the IEM Office at iem@uiowa.edu
