IEM Account Registration Instructions

Please follow the instructions below to access the IEM on-line registration Web page. If you have further questions please contact the IEM office at iem@uiowa.edu or call 319-335-0881.

  1. You must create a new account in order to trade in the IEM Cat in the Hat Movie Market. Trading in this new account will be restriced to the Cat in the Hat Movie Market until that market is liquidated. After liquidation, your account will be granted access to all other IEM markets. If you already have an existing IEM trading account, you will be able to transfer the funds from this new account into your old account at the end of the semester. To do that, you must request that the transfer take place by sending email to the IEM Office at iem@uiowa.edu.

  2. To register for an account you will need a security code that you can remember (this will be used to identify your account if you forget your password), address, and phone number. The information you provide us will not be sold or distributed in any way. It will be used by us solely to identify and administer your account. If you do not have this information with you, close this page and return to it when you have the necessary information. If you do not provide this information, or if it is obviously false, we cannot activate your account.

    Please Note: We do not ask for your social security number when you open an IEM account. Do not use your social security number as your security code.

  3. All traders must review the IEM Traders Manual. The manual is available at http://www.biz.uiowa.edu/iem/trmanual. You can read this manual online, or save a copy by holding down your shift key while clicking on the hypertext address.

  4. If you do not use your account, you may incur fees. There is no fee to open your account, but you may later incur fees if you do not use your account. If you open an account and the time between your logins exceeds 6 months, you may be assessed a semi-annual inactivity fee. The inactivity fee is $5 or the balance in your account, whichever is lower. This inactivity fee is assessed each January 1 and July 1, based on your previous 6 months' activity. You can avoid inactivity fees entirely by logging in to your account at least once every 6 months. You need only log in; you do not need to execute trades to avoid these fees.

  5. To begin the signup process, enter your Account_ID and Authorization Code in the boxes below. Once you submit your registration information and receive your Application Confirmation, the Account_ID and Authorization Code become invalid. They cannot be reused. These codes give you access to the secure registration site. They are not your login ID and password for the trading system.

  6. Complete all the information on the registration page. The registration page will automatically appear when you click submit at the bottom of this page.

  7. Your IEM Login ID and Password will be sent to the email address that you provide on the registration form. The IEM Office will activate your account within 2 business days after you submit the registration form. You cannot trade until your account is activated. If you do not provide an email address, your IEM Login ID and Password will be sent by U.S. Mail.
